 Drew McIntyre

While many fellow 15-year-olds were worried about sitting at the “popular table” at lunchtime, Drew McIntyre was already training to become a WWE Superstar. He didn’t have to wait terribly long to achieve his dream, either, as the endlessly athletic Scotsman skyrocketed from the U.K. independent scene to the big show, WWE, at just age 22. The outlook was so bright for the 6-foot-5 McIntyre that when he first arrived, Mr. McMahon labeled him a “future World Champion.” The Chairman was eventually proven correct, though fulfilling that prophecy did not come easily for McIntyre.

Backstage, Drew McIntyre is asked about the #1 contendership match tonight. He says it will be a great match even though he’s not in it. He’s learned, though, that if something’s not happening for you, you make it happen.

Drew McIntyre reveals what bothers him about NXT
Published by: |   (0) Comments      Read MORE      Filed Under: WWE, WWE.Com Interview

Since returning to WWE, Drew McIntyre hasn’t exactly been shy about voicing his opinion, whether it’s expressing his desire to challenge for the NXT Championship or his intention to help NXT grow as a brand.

That outspokenness even extends to talking about what he doesn’t like about NXT.

During a recent Facebook Live interview with Kayla Braxton, the Scottish Superstar — who was in Riverside, Calif., for his first NXT Live tour since making his WWE return last month — revealed what he would like to change about the black-and-yellow brand.

“The way I see it, I need people to stop thinking of it as ‘moving up,’” McIntyre said of instances when a Superstar moves from NXT to Raw or SmackDown LIVE. “That’s the only thing I see with the roster and perhaps the fans is the perception that moving a brand is moving up. I don’t see it that way. These people are so, so talented.”

The Scottish Superstar touched on a number of other topics beyond making NXT an equal to Raw and SmackDown LIVE, from naming NXT’s hardest hitters (Oney Lorcan, Aleister Black and Roderick Strong all received shout-outs) to speaking about the reception he’s received since signing with NXT.

You can watch the entire interview below, and keep an eye peeled for future Facebook Live interviews on NXT’s official Facebook page.

Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Drew McIntyre

Cien does his usual start of match lounging as he evades a grapple from McIntyre. This is followed by McIntyre throwing Cien into the ropes where Cien, again, lies on the middle rope, relaxing. So, McIntyre kicks Cien directly to the floor below. He continues bringing the chops and punches until he’s walking up the ring steps and Cien trips him.

As they re-enter the ring, it’s Cien delivering the slaps. McIntyre tries to counter but Cien is able to force him to the mat for a quick 1 count. He stomps on McIntyre in the corner, backs off, runs at him, stops, yells and slaps McIntyre in the face. Insulting.

McIntyre slowly rises to his feet andhe means business. He throws Cien into the opposite corner and unloads a barrage of punches. Off the top rope…clothesline! He lifts Cien on to his shoulders. Cien wiggles free. The two trade chops to the chest. McIntyre gets a few more in. Off the ropes, powerslam by McIntyre.

He tunes up in the corner and rushes Cien with a running knee smash to the face. 1-2-3.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

Oney Lorcan versus Drew McIntyre

They lock up and Drew with a clean break. Lorcan with a side head lock and Drew with an Irish whip. Drew with a slam and Lorcan goes to the floor. Drew tells Lorcan to come back to the ring. Lorcan with two running European uppercuts and Drew goes to the floor. Lorcan with a plancha onto Drew and then he goes up top for a cross body but Drew catches Oney and hits a tilt-a-whirl back breaker on the apron as we go to commercial.

We are back and Drew with a chop and a butterfly suplex for a near fall. Drew with another chop followed by an Irish whip. Drew runs into a boot and Lorcan rolls past Drew and then he hits a running blockbuster for a near fall. Lorcan goes back to the apron and turnbuckles but Drew with a head butt to Lorcan and Drew climbs the turnbuckles. Lorcan crotches Drew and puts him in the tree of woe. Lorcan takes too long and Drew pulls himself up and sends Lorcan to the mat by the neck.

Lorcan with slaps to Drew. Drew blocks a kick and he hits a reverse wheelbarrow slam. Drew with a flying boot for the three count.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

After the match, Drew is asked what brings him to NXT. Drew says this is where he needs to be. He says he has built a reputation and he could have signed anywhere in the world. He has the Raw talent and he could put the Smackdown on anyone, but he doesn’t want to be anywhere but NXT.
