McIntyre and Almas face off before TakeOver
Back at ringside, Drew McIntyre makes his way to the ring to confront Andrade “Cien” Almas. Drew says it’s great when a plan comes together, congratulating Almas and Vega on their plan to get “Cien” a shot at the title at Takeover. Now they’re both in trouble…it’s one thing to ask for the opportunity, but when reality sets in, that’s when you find out what kind of man you truly are because it’s clear what kind of man Drew is! When the lights are on in Houston, will Almas be able to say the same? Vega has been rambling about mountains, but Almas is gonna find out real quick that Drew IS the bloody mountain! Drew asks one more time for Almas to come out and face him man to man. Don’t do it to prove something to me or Vega, do it to prove it to yourself. Come out and face me like a man…unless of course Vega won’t let you off the leash! Andrade’s music hits, but Vega is out on the stage with a big smile on her face. Suddenly, Almas comes storming out taking his suit jacket off as he gets to the ring. Both men trade blows as Drew gets the upper hand…and Vega comes flying off the top turnbuckle, only for Drew to catch her in midair! Drew sets her down as Almas catches the champ with a chop block from behind, before hitting a Hammerlock DDT! Vega picks up the NXT Championship, telling Almas to look at it as they stand tall over the champion.
Backstage, Drew McIntyre signs the contract for his match against Andrade “Cien” Almas.
As Drew McIntyre is walking to the ring, Almas attacks him from behind. Vega picks up the contract and gives it to Almas to sign. After Almas signs, Almas takes Vega’s gum out of her mouth and uses it to stick the contract to McIntyre.
Christy St. Cloud is standing by with Drew McIntyre, who talks about what’s been happening in NXT and becoming champion, the tough journey to this point and dealing with his release from WWE before. He talked to his dad who asked if he was going to be okay, especially since he and his girlfriend had moved into an apartment four days prior and in talking to his girlfriend (now wife), she noticed a fire was missing when he was released but after a while, he found that the fire came back and he was going to be okay. Some time later, he came back and four months later became champion. He talks about what he wants to do in NXT at this point, helping to inspire people suddenly, we see Zelina Vega walk in and interrupt, saying she’s taking over the interview. Vega talks about Drew and Andrade having a lot in common as Almas was on a downward slope before she came along. She asks Drew why he’s been avoiding Almas, but Drew says to talk to Regal. Vega retorts that the champ has the most pull with Regal. Drew understands what’s happening, and tells Vega to have Almas come to him directly, look him in the eye, and say that he actually wants the match. Vega agrees to this & walks off.

General Manager William Regal brings out McIntyre and Roode for the face to face meeting. Roode comes out with a security team in his corner though as Roderick Strong is running around like a crazy man and we need to protect the big money match. Well to protect Roode that is because he’s the big money. Roode talks about Drew feeling entitled to his shot but he’s done everything he’s set out to do.
This is Roode’s NXT and the fans know that he’s the one. Drew thinks Roode might have had the best year ever for an NXT Champion but there’s one problem: Roode is kind of a jerk. That’s just going to make taking the title from him all the sweeter though. This brings out Strong, to say that he’s not done with Roode no matter what Regal says. Strong says this isn’t about the NXT Title but rather Roode disrespecting Strong’s family.
All Strong wants is one more fight with Roode and it doesn’t even have to be for the title. Regal tries to calm him down but Roode says he’ll fight Strong anytime with the title on the line….if Strong can beat Drew first. If Strong wins, he can fight Roode after Takeover, which will be Roode vs. McIntyre for the title no matter what. Drew agrees to the match next week and Regal eventually agrees.
